Kim Kardashian West is set to drop her new KKWBEAUTY line this week, and she’s giving fans a glimpse into what her Kreme Contour and Highlight kits will entail.
This Episode is Brought to you by Transformers: The Last Knight. Check it out in theaters Wednesday, June 21st. Tickets now on sale.
She may have learned a thing or two from Kylie Jenner, but Kim is letting it be known that their products are nowhere near similar!
Up until this weekend, Kim Kardashian has kept details regarding her new cosmetics line on the down low, but she’s finally let fans in on exactly what her new line of contour and highlight products will contain. On Saturday, the reality star finally revealed that she would be releasing four different kits to compliment a variety of skin tones, and she seemed to take a page straight out of Kylie Jenner’s book as she debuted each of the shades via Snapchat.
But contrary to many fans’ beliefs, Kim is making it known that two sisters can, in fact, release their own makeup lines without malicious intent or unhealthy competition. Although Kim has collaborated with Kylie in the past, she opened up about the difference between KKWBEAUTY and Kylie Cosmetics, saying that first and foremost, she will not be featuring as many drops as Kylie, so don’t expect holiday or seasonal-themed kits from Kiki.
She also revealed that QUOTE, “I don’t have all the color kits that she does. A lot of my stuff is going to be for skin. I’m trying to mirror skin care with makeup. It’s going to be a different vibe; it’s not going to be a full color cosmetics range with shadows and all of that to start.” She also noted that she’ll probably do some kits here and there, but keep it within the looks.
Kim is also the first to admit that unlike Kylie’s line which is always predicted to sell out the day of the release, Kim’s probably won’t, and it’s because she’s well-aware of exactly the type of consumer looking to purchase her product. She said QUOTE, “We have a good model, and even from our lip kit we have a really good general idea of what our customer is going to be like. We are definitely prepared for the demand… I know they do make a mass volume. It’s not like we’re making a small quantity and it’s selling out.”
But one more noticeable difference between the two kits that has fans sharing their harsh criticism online is Kim’s packaging. Unlike Kylie’s perfected outer packaging of her kits, Kim’s will be delivered in what many are calling sealed Ziploc bags. They’ve taken to Twitter to criticize the ‘cheap’ packaging, as one user wrote, “Ok but why does the packaging for KKW Beauty look exactly like the ready to eat meals my dad gets in the military”, while another tweeted, “ive seen fruit snacks with better packaging than KKW beauty.”
Well considering that the kits are selling for $48, some users seem to be staying optimistic about the packaging, saying, “@kkwbeauty The packaging reminds me of Forever21 makeup. However don't judge a book by its cover. Trial & error. Congrats Kim!” I’m gonna have to agree with that statement, because I have a feeling that once you achieve the perfect contour and highlight with these kits, I assure you won’t be complaining about the packaging for much longer…
But I want to hear from you guys – what do you think about Kim’s new contour kits, and is the packaging steering you away from purchasing?
