The early morning inferno last week that killed 23 and injured 14 more when it engulfed a dormitory at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school in Kuala Lumpur has been classified as an incendiary fire. While it is up to a criminal investigation as to whether the case was arson, the fire department has established that the fire was deliberately set.
The investigation by the bomba discovered traces of petrol on the towel and shoe racks as well as on the walls on the third floor of the building.
The spread of the fire was further accelerated by gas released from two Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG cylinders.
