[KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim explained that Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) was selected for the Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd’s deal as the company had agreed to continue appointing a Malaysian chairperson and chief executive officer.
Anwar added that it was also to maintain the collective national majority ownership of shares.
He also stressed that MAHB is just the company that manages the airports and the Malaysian government continues to be the owner of the airports.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the Blackrock-linked factories in Kedah and Kelantan are nothing compared to the planned MAHB takeover.
He said Blackrock’s investments in Malaysia are small and passive, unlike the MAHB deal which will give Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) a voice in the management of 39 airports nationwide.
