[KiniNews] DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has panned former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for his explanation of his infamous "cash is king" remark by saying that the king is the public.

He said Najib's new interpretation made no sense.

"He tried to spin that the 'king' is the rakyat, meaning the cash is rakyat. I don't follow this logic," Loke said in a Facebook post last night.

“Cash is king” is commonly taken to mean that money can be used to buy anything, including power and influence.

Najib became associated with the phrase in 2015 after uttering the remarks to Dr Mahathir Mohamad when the latter expressed concern over the controversial 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) cash aid policy.
