#KiniNews: Pendang MP ejected from Dewan Rakyat; Zaid urges Umno to push for speaker to be replaced

[KiniNews] The Dewan Rakyat has slapped Awang Solahuddin Hashim (PN-Pendang) with a three-day suspension following his refusal to retract his "anti-Islam" accusation towards RSN Rayer (Harapan-Jelutong).

Deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Ramli Mohd Nor delivered the ruling under Standing Order 37(2), after giving Awang three warnings to retract his statement.

"Jelutong is anti-Islam, so I will not retract... I remain with my principle," Awang said citing Rayer’s past criticisms of Kedah's gambling ban.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, former minister Zaid Ibrahim has urged Umno to push its partners in government to allow Parliament to replace Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul.

Zaid noted that Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani have spoken out about the speaker’s ruling that six former Bersatu MPs will retain their seats and not force a by-election.
