[KiniNews] An Umno leader has slammed the suggestion by DAP lawmaker Ngeh Koo Ham to appoint non-Muslim constitutional experts to the committee reviewing the jurisdiction of syariah courts as per the Federal Constitution.
According to Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Ngeh's proposal is not "rooted in reality" and is also capable of stirring unwanted controversy in the multiracial country.
Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Ngeh had misunderstood the source of power behind the committee that reviews syariah courts’ jurisdiction as per the Federal Constitution.
Loke stressed that the misunderstanding had led to the Beruas MP's proposal on the matter.
In a separate story, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi has wondered if there is something between the lines of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent remarks about investigating those with Tun titles.
Puad also said while there is no need to investigate all those with the Tun title, he however stressed that when there is a probe, none should be spared.
