DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has called on Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign or retract his statement that Muslims must stand together in opposing anyone challenging decisions by the National Fatwa Committee.
He said Zahid was challenging the authority of the civil courts and dishonoring the oath of office he had taken as deputy prime minister and as a member of parliament to preserve, protect and defend the Malaysian constitution.
Zahid had said said that Muslims must stand together in opposing anyone challenging decisions by the National Fatwa Committee.
This was after the Court of Appeal decided last Thursday that a child conceived out of wedlock can take on his or her father's surname, and that the edict on this by the National Fatwa Committee does not have the force of law.
