It’s official: Kylie Jenner has ruined Snapchat for good.
With just two little tweets, Kylie has cost the company 1.3 BILLION dollars. Yes, I said billion.
Kylie Jenner has declared on Twitter, that Snapchat is dead. Okay she didn’t really say those exact words, but she may as well have. On Wednesday afternoon Kylie was at home and feeling under the weather so she decided to treat fans to some of her recent thoughts. Kylie tweeted somewhat innocently, “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad.” But then her tweet started to pick up steam, as in sixty thousand retweets. Eleven minutes later Kylie tried to do some damage control and followed that up with: “still love you tho snap ... my first love”. But the damage was already done.
It appears Kylie isn’t a fan of Snapchats controversial new update and has doomed the future of the app. Those two little tweets helped Snapchat’s stock lose one point three BILLION DOLLARS the very next day. TMZ reports that the social media platform’s shares were down 7.2 percent just hours after Kylie posted her tweets. Kylie’s influence makes sense if you think about it- she has an audience of 25 million on Twitter, and at one time was the unofficial Queen of Snapchat.
Kylie first hinted at her changed feelings towards Snapchat two weeks ago when she tweeted, “Mm just saw the new Snapchat..I don’t know how I feel about it! What do you guys think?” So obviously we can’t 100 percent blame this stock loss on Kylie, but the problem is that everyone one else feels the same way she does. Over 1.2 million people have signed a change.org petition asking the company to remove the new app update. Pair that with one of Snap’s most influential users declaring the company is cancelled and that makes for some super bad news.
What do you guys think of Kylie’s ability to make a company lose that much money? Do you think it’s really her fault… or nah? Tell us your gut reaction down in the comments section.
