We've got good news and bad news for Liam Payne fans -- the bad news: the 1D member has broken up with his girlfriend Sophia Smith. The good news: he's single! So, word has it that Liam and Sophia, who were together for 8 months, broke up due to their crazy schedules and too much distance. According to an unknown source, Liam was the one who finally decided to end the relationship -- he knew it was for the best -- but he's QUOTE "devastated." The source basically explained that they were spending too much time apart and with the tour kicking off for One Direction, things were only going to be getting worse, plus Sophia is busy with her university studies. From what we hear, the time apart lead to a lot of arguments and the distance made impossible to maintain the relationship. After the break-up, Liam hit twitter to pour out his heart sending out three separate tweets that read: "Can't be without you. Worse thing I ever did was let you go. No all I got left is the thought of you." Poor Liam...break-ups are never easy.

Things were pretty serious right off the bat, with Liam flying Sophia to LA for some of their shows. Around that time, Sophia tweeted this out: I will always love Liam more than anything. I don't want to be famous or have any money. Being normal is more me" Well, it sound like Sophia is a sweet girl, but doing the long distance thing can be hard.
