Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad believes a convict should not be invited to the palace.
Mahathir was referring to former premier Najib Abdul Razak's presence at the palace recently.
Mahathir said Najib's presence there gives the impression that he has royal support.
Najib was in July 2020 sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and an RM210 million fine after he was found guilty by the Kuala Lumpur High Court of abuse of power, money laundering, and criminal breach of trust with regard to RM42 million of funds belonging to SRC International.
The Court of Appeal upheld the decision last December. Najib is appealing the case at the Federal Court.
