Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in a video posted on Facebook, said he and his wife of six decades Siti Hasmah Ali, are now persona non grata among some of their friends.
"We share our lives. Whatever happens to me, she accepts. Whatever happens to her, I accept it too. We don't feel threatened or afraid due to such threats.
"Nowadays, our friends run away when they see us. People don't want to be near us because it can lead to government reprisal.
"This is a new aspect in the government today. (You) cannot be my friend," he added.
