DeFalco's is an Italian deli and grocery store in Scottsdale, Arizona. Get the details here:

Scottsdale is located adjacent to Tempe, Arizona, where I attended Arizona State University. When I was going to school, my roommate introduced me to a restaurant down the road known as DeFalco's, a really home-style Italian deli and grocery store. The family run business is nice and local, and just has a nice friendly feel to it as soon as you walk in the door. When you walk in the door at DeFalco's you're first greeted by a range of different groceries on sale, things like olive oils, a large selection of wines, pastas, sauces, marinaras, and all sorts of things you would need to cook an amazing Italian feast. But the main attraction for myself is to the back of the shop where you'll find the fridges full of delicious deli meats, house made sausages and salamis, and a full fridge full of antipastos and salads. If you love Italian food, your mouth will begin to water at this point.

I don't eat Italian food very often, rarely do I stray from my Asian food palette, but occasionally, like if I happen to be in Arizona, I like to eat as much Mexican food as possible, and also eat at DeFalco's every now and then. The menu at DeFalco's is posted on the back wall, and you just sort of walk to the back of the shop and place your order, and then choose a seat and your order will be delivered to you as soon as it's ready. There's a full menu to choose from, including all sorts of hot and cold sandwiches, pastas, and then of course that full cabinet of antipastos. I know the metball sub is not the most Italian authentic dish one could order, but I'd have to say that at DeFalco's they make it incredibly well. I find it hard to order any other thing on the menu than the meatball sub because it just always hits the spot. So the day I went into DeFalco's I couldn't resist my usual order - the meatball sub.

The meatballs were huge, and spiced nicely, not spicy, but filled with herbs and just the right amount of seasoning and saltiness. They were also just the right texture, meaty, but tender and soft, my teeth slicing right through the meat with ease. The marinara sauce at DeFalco's is also quite wonderful, tangy, but not overly sweet, and oozing with flavor. Finally that cheese they used was not overpowering like it can sometimes be at other restaurants where you order the meatball sub, instead, the cheese was a complement to the meatballs, secondary. The generous sized meatball, oozing with sauce and cheese, came filled into a large roll, toasted to perfection. I think DeFalco's Italian Deli has one of the best meatball subs in all of Phoenix, and they also have many other delicious items on the menu. If you enjoy Italian food in a nice friendly atmosphere, be sure to go to DeFalco's when you're in Phoenix, Arizona.
