Education Minister Maszlee Malik says that he wants public higher educational institutions (IPTA) to become grounds for intellectuals to share and challenge ideas.
He said that vice-chancellors and university adminitrators should no longer restrict debates, forums and other programmes organised by the students.
He also wants universities to do away with entrance gantries and barriers in order to turn the institutions into open intellectual playing fields.
