Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak explains why a contractor from China was chosen to complete the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
Najib said Malaysia was granted attractive financing terms in exchange for China nominating the contractor.
According to Najib, the agreement also allows for a grace period of seven years where the government does not need to repay the principal.
