Well, you guys… it’s time to dive right into Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgård’s acceptance speeches from last night… are you ready?
Big Little Lies earned many Golden Globes last night, but among them were Nicole Kidman’s award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series Made for Television, and Alexander Skarsgård’s award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series. Although the show earned even more awards than just those two last night, Nicole and Alexander’s speeches were of the most powerful of the evening.
Nicole took the stage with an empowering message about the magic that happens when women work together towards a common goal, especially her and her BFF Reese Witherspoon! She thanked Reese by saying, QUOTE, “We did this because of our friendship, our creative union, and our support of each other, and I love you.”
She also thanked the rest of the female members of the cast, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley, for coming together to make Big Little Lies the big success that it is.
OMG, you guys, we’re just loving all of this girl power!
Before exiting the stage, though, Nicole Kidman had a bunch more people to thank including her Mom, who was an advocate for the women’s movement during Nicole’s childhood, and of course, her hubby, Keith Urban.
Aww! But even with all of those special moments from Nicole’s acceptance speech, she wasn’t the only Big Little Lies star to pay homage to women in their speech.
Alexander Skarsgård gave all of the credit for his award to the women he had the privilege of working with on the series.
He even gave Nicole a special shout out, since, after all, she’s the one he shares the most screen time with. He said, QUOTE, “Nicole, I love you, thank you for making this the greatest experience of my career.”
Even though it’s clear that he has so much love for Nicole, some people felt that he dissed the other women he works with by only specifically mentioning Nicole. He also faced a ton of backlash for failing to address domestic violence in his speech at all, considering he plays the role of an abuser in the series.
But what do you guys think of the speeches? Did Alexander’s speech miss the mark? Let us know in the comments section below, and as always, don’t forget to subscribe. Thanks for watching Clevver News, I’m your host Drew Dorsey and I’ll see you next time!
