Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has defended the action of an Immigration Department staff who chastised a woman and her daughter for their inability to speak Bahasa Malaysia, while renewing a passport in Johor.

Speaking at a press conference today, he said the authority has a reason to be suspicious if a citizen does not have any grasp of the national language.
