PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah sees it as a blessing in disguise that former allies in Pakatan Harapan managed to capture federal power without the Islamist party's help.
Mohd Amar noted that Harapan had inherited a country with a huge debt and would like to see the new ruling coalition clean it up before PAS takes over.
"We can't govern Malaysia yet because the debt is high [...] how are we going to pay for it?
"Let them (Harapan) have it. Once they have resolved it (debt), we can take over Malaysia in five year's time (during the next general election)," he was quoted as saying in a ceramah in a YouTube video.
Mohd Amar likened to the situation to when Umno captured Kelantan from PAS in 1978 only to lose it again in 1990.
