Popular Bookstore Last Day At Jalan Tun H.S. Lee. 茨厂街大眾书局结束32年的营业史

So Popular So Sad ! 8.30pm,10, April 2016 is the last day for popular
farewell to KL's ' book street' landmark ! For over 32 years the name Popular has been the must go bookshop in Kuala Lumpur. Customers, mainly the Chinese literate, came from all over the country! Even visitors to this popular vicinity of Petaling Street will as popped by to look see what's in store at Popular. From school books, stationery, to all kinds of educational materials. Sad to say, this landmark bookshop has to say goodbye. The reality strikes here : lesser Chinese literate customers, online purchase, influx of foreigners in the area as well as operational costs have all made the owner decide to close shop here. Nevertheless, the Popular brand has other outlets in Malaysia to serve its loyal customers. Amongst the interesting "last" offers were the 80% discounts on items. We caught  up with the last customer on the last day and watch what he has to say. We bid farewell to this popular bookshop and may this video be an archieve for all to cherish! 
2016 年 4 月 10 日晚上8.30，茨厂街大眾书局正式吹起熄灯號，结束32年的营业史。
 
隨著茨厂街华裔客源逐渐被外劳人口「侵蚀」，走过32个年头的茨厂街大眾书局，也因难挡华裔客源流失与高昂营运成本因素，正式宣佈撤出茨厂街，过往被誉为隆市「华文书局一条街」的茨厂街与苏丹街文化气息也逐渐褪色！
创于1984年的茨厂街大眾书局，是隆市中心重要地標，而苏丹街一带在80年代云集超过10间书局的盛况，包括大眾书局、上海书局、商务印书馆、世界书局、大书局、大將书局、学林书局与欣华书局，也让苏丹街博得「书街」的美誉，更是隆雪学生在茨厂街逛书局的重要回忆拼图。
隨著时代发展洪流，更多顾客选择购物广场里舒適的连锁书局，加上茨厂街周遭华裔客源日渐稀少，被庞大的外劳人口取代，苏丹街附近的各大书局已先后关闭。仅剩大眾书局2009年1月搬迁至敦李孝式路现址。
 
大眾书局预计今年会在蕉赖Sunway Velocity开设一间超过1万6000平方尺的新门市。
