According to The Star filleted pufferfish is now being sold in the wet markets of Penang, Kedah and Perak as “crystal fish”.
Pufferfish are known to be poisonous as they contain a toxin that could kill a person when ingested. However the fish is edible provided that the poisonous parts are removed properly by trained professionals.
The risk to unsuspecting buyers is not from the fish itself but on how it is being prepared.
