Pharrel’s group N.E.R.D. just dropped a new song with Rihanna called “Lemon” and her verse on it is so good it’s making fans thirsty for a RiRi rap album.
We all knew Rihanna was dope, but now I know she can rap and is snatching my wig before I can even put it on.
It’s been a minute since N.E.R.D. released new material. Their last song was in 2014 and now they are back with “Lemon” which features the one and only Rihanna spitting some major fire. Naturally with any song Pharrel touches, the beat is everything and about 40 seconds in Rihanna comes in hot sounding almost unrecognizable like we’ve never heard her before.
That’s only the first ten seconds and I was already getting my life. The song is all about making lemonade out of lemons in a tumultuous social and political climate our world is going through right now. On the track, Pharrel sings about relevant issues including everything from Trump to gun control to race over an infectious beat that will inevitably get stuck in my head. And although Ri sounds different than ever before, this isn’t the first time she has gifted us with her rap skills. She gave a similar delivery on Kendrick Lamar’s “LOYALTY.” And as if we all weren’t already itching for new RiRi music, this song is making me want more and more. N.E.R.D.S is scheduled to perform at the ComplexCon festival in Long Beach on Saturday so there’s a chance we may get to see Rihanna join them onstage.
