TARIAN JOGET
The Joget is the most popular traditional dance throughout Malaysia. It is believed to originate from the Portuguese folk dance known as Branyo which is a branch of the Corindinho dance. In time, the Joget was performed to popular Malay tunes such as 'Jingkling Nona' and thus became well known as as a social dance. Traditionally performed in pairs of male and female dancers, the Joget grew in popularity to the extent that many songs have been created specifically as musical accompaniments for the dance itself. These include 'Joget Serampang Laut', 'Joget 106' and 'Joget Johore Sports Club', among others. Known sometimes as 'Joget Lambak', the Joget dance is deeply rooted in the cultural milieu of Malaysia.
