So ladies, it’s up to us if we want this feature on Tinder or not.
Tinder has always given male or female users the option of who messages the other first when they match, but it seems that the app is looking to borrow some of Bumble’s female-empowering thunder.
Of course, the new “ladies first” feature on Tinder has not been rolled out yet, but it WILL become an option once the new update rolls out.
So long story short, Tinder isn’t just turning into Bumble because of this update. Ladies, you can still decide if you want guys to be able to message you first. And some of us are shy and are totally down with guys making the first move, so no need to sweat if you’re in that category.
Meanwhile I’m sure there are also some of us who are grateful for the opportunity to opt out of getting unsolicited “U up?” texts from strangers at 3am.
This update may also require Tinder to make some interface changes, so that users can know who’s accepting conversations and who isn’t.
Because there’s nothing like wondering if that person saw your text and just chose to ignore it. #SingleGirlProblems.
This is a great step for Tinder in the direction of preventing women from receiving abusive comments, but as we all know it’s also not a perfect solution. Just because women can start a conversation, doesn’t mean they are immune to having nasty, aggressive, or abusive comments thrown back at them. But hey, let’s give the app props for giving women the option to take control of their online dating experience!
When Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd was asked what she thought of Tinder’s copycat move, she replied QUOTE, “We applaud any company making business decisions that empower women.”
Now THAT is what we call a BOSS response.
So what do you guys think of Tinder adding the ‘ladies first’ feature?
