Do you know what this means?! Twitter is about to let us use ALL the vowels in our words again! THX, Twitter!
If 140 characters is just not ENOUGH for you to express yourself in one tweet, you’re about to be very happy, because it sounds like Twitter is ready to grant ALL users 280 characters per post.
Initially, Twitter only allotted 9% of users the 280 character limit as a way to test out the longer posts, and it was obviously a success because for the first time in the app’s history, it’s going to allot that many characters for EVERYONE.
According to Politico, Twitter is preparing to QUOTE, “up its character limit to 280 characters for everyone in the very near future. D.C. is beginning to buzz about it, as political operatives have caught wind of the change.”
Twitter released a statement when it initially tested out the feature that read QUOTE “With this new feature, Twitter hopes you'll feel less frustrated because you won't have to cram or reduce your message. And perhaps you won't even have to send out multiple tweets to convey one idea," the site wrote last month. "In short, Twitter believes 280 characters is the sweet spot. It's long enough for you to better express yourself, but still enough of a constraint to keep tweets brief."
While 280 is obviously double the amount of characters as the original 140, we’ll probably still be seeing longer threads on the app, because some rants and raves just need more space. But the good news is that now we don’t have to be so “creative” with our spelling when it comes to trying to squeeze in a thought or two. In fact, this probably means that we won’t have to take out half the vowels in our words in order to finish our sentences! And we might even be able to use full phrases instead of acronyms to express our feelings or opinions! You guys, this is one small step for Twitter, but one GIANT leap for the grammar of mankind.
Alright guys now I wanna know what you think about potentially having 280 characters to use on Twitter--are you like, “Finally!”, or are you not really bothered either way? Let me know in the comments below, and after that click here to see the Cheeseburger emoji drama that went down on Twitter recently.
