The internet is still talking about the celebrities who were hacked over Labor Day weekend, and Clevver News has got your latest update.
.
First, I want to say that these photos were stolen and taken with a certain assumption of privacy, so we need to find this hacker and find justice. Okay, and now, let’s actually talk about our girl who we support Victoria Justice. When the leaked nude photos of her initially surfaced, she was quick to deny the authenticity of the photos tweeting:
“These so called nudes of me are FAKE people. Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*”
However, she shared a bit more information on Tuesday by sending out the following tweet to her fans:
QUOTE “Shortly after I tweeted about certain pics of me being fake, I was faced with a serious violation of privacy. There have always been fake photos of me on the internet, but I will not be put in the position to defend myself as to what is real or what is fake. I am angry at this massive invasion of privacy, and like the other women who are in this situation alongside of me, I am taking legal action to protect my rights.”
And we fully support you on this one, V. As far as Jennifer Lawrence is concerned, the Oscar-winning actress has run into somewhat of a legal hurdle trying to get her leaked photos taken down. Per TMZ, Jennifer doesn’t own the copyright to the snapshots since some of the photos were taken by other people. At least, that’s what the site who is hosting the photos is saying.
Apparently, when Jen’s legal team insisted the photos be removed, the site claimed that she needed to provide proof that she does indeed own the copyright to the photos. Say what?! So basically what they’re saying is unless it’s a selfie, the person who took the photo technically owns it. And if you didn’t already hear, J-Law’s representative made a statement threatening legal action against those who share the illegally obtained nude photos… so this site is definitely going way out there on a limb.
TMZ also pointed out that a somewhat similar photo copyright situation happened with the famous Oscars selfie – that Jen was actually in. Ellen DeGeneres and her team tried to claim they owned the photo when Jen’s frequent co-star Bradley Cooper was technically the one who had the copyright since he snapped the photo. But that was a fun photo, taken quite publicly during the Academy Awards live show, so this current incident is quite different and should be taken much more seriously as it’s a clear violation of privacy.
Another significant update in this messy situation involves Apple denying fault in the leaked nude photos, saying their iCloud security system was NOT to blame here. They released a lengthy statement in which one of the main points was that they qUOTE “discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions.” This is important to note because early reports – from press and some of the victims – actually erroneously blamed iCloud. And just in case you didn’t know, Apple takes privacy issues VERY seriously, so I think we’re in good hands.
Alright, what do you have to say about all of this news? Hit the comments to get talking, and remember that if this can happen to celebrities – it can happen to you… So don’t just say that these celebs shouldn’t have taken the photos – that’s not the solution. But if you’re a kid or teen, you better not be taking these types of photos! I’ll come thru the screen and… well… you get it.
