Bank Negara Malaysia purportedly fined 1MDB a sum of RM115.8 million for non-compliance with the Financial Services Act.
Pakatan Harapan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail disclosed this, citing a letter received yesterday from the central bank's legal adviser.
The central bank was responding to a memorandum Pakatan Harapan MPs had sent to Bank Negara urging it to reopen its investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
"Logically, Bank Negara had fined 1MDB RM115.8 million, that means many laws were breached.
"Obviously breaching the laws were made under someone's instructions as 1MDB is not the kind of creature that acts on its own," Wan Azizah said in a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
She added that with action taken under Section 234(3)(b) of the Financial Services Act to fine 1MDB, action must also be taken under Section 234(5) against the individual who was responsible for giving said instructions.
