The spring 2015 Costume Institute exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is dedicated to Chinese fashion, and that's the theme for this year's gala. The exhibit is called "China: Through the Looking Glass," and it showcases Chinese art and rare artifacts as well as dresses interpreting Chinese designs from Western designers like John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Tom Ford. The gala can be notoriously tricky to dress for, but fears about cultural appropriation are running high for this particular event.
The Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Each year there is a theme that sets the tone for the guests fashion. This year it was China: Through the looking glass. Two of the celebrity guests, Zendaya and Vanessa Hudgens, definitely dressed to the theme and we are breaking down their looks.
Zendaya definitely stood out in her sun inspired dress. The 18 year old actress wore a custom Fausto Puglisi gown. The bodice was black velvet, with a plunging neckline that fell into silk crimson asymmetric skirt. But the detail is what made this stand out. There were hand embroidered crystal and velvet sun designs.
And we have to mention her accessories. Shye had a beautiful sun iunspoired head pices and arm cuff as well as a really edgy snake diamond ring. She always brings the heat.
But, Vanessa Hudgens showed up and showed out as well. The singer, actress, and most recently broadway star, wore a red H&M dress. She clearly was feeling her look because she instagrammed a photo saying “I'm a happy girl. Photo cred @hernameisbanks #MetGala”
The 26-year-old actress also donned a black birdcage veil and black drop earrings. She fiished off the look with black heels that tied in a bow around the ankle.
