Did Nicki Minaj Just Shade Vanessa Hudgens' Rap Skills?

Vanessa Hudgens can officially tack on ‘conquering a Nicki Minaj verse’ to her long list of talents following the Billboard Music Awards, but was her rap enough to impress the queen herself?

So she did totally smash Nicki’s verse, but in the words of Barbz herself – “You could be the king but watch the QUEEN conquer.”
It’s never an easy feat to attempt to conquer a Nicki Minaj rap verse, but it sure takes a LOTTA cojones to attempt her verses when she’s standing approximately 100 feet away from you. During the 2017 Billboard Music Awards last weekend, Ludacris challenged his co-host Vanessa Hudgens to a hosting initiation process, to which she had to spit a Nicki verse… smack dab in front of her.
And while Nicki had yet to respond to V’s performance until just yesterday, many fans took notice when she shared the clip of Vanessa rapping via Instagram, and suspected a hint of shade being thrown…
Besides Drake’s unamused facial expression, Nicki applauded Vanessa in her caption saying QUOTE, “dats da monsta duhewwwwww – ummm @vanessahudgens I see u boo – u def put ur own ummm “twang” on it [Gwen looks beautiful] [her & her bae]”
Many of the comments were quick to assume Nicki’s caption was full of shade and poking fun at Vanessa, while others took notice at Drake’s face, to which they wrote things like, “And in that moment, she stole Drake’s heart”. I don’t know if that’s exactly the ‘look of love’ but it was also assumed that Nicki threw a hint of subtle shade toward Vanessa in her post because of Nicki’s reaction when Drake complimented Vanessa during his acceptance speech on Sunday night, saying QUOTE, “I wanna say that, Vanessa Hudgens, you look incredible tonight.”
The camera then panned to Nicki mouthing, “EXCUSE ME?! WHAT ABOUT ME?!” just before Drizzy paid his respects to Nicki. So I’m pretty torn here, but I want to know what you guys thought about Nicki’s Instagram post – was it meant to be a compliment, or did you get a sense of subtle shade?
