虽然伊斯兰党在砂拉越州选举向来没有作为，但是这次仍然竞逐11个议席。埔奕伊斯兰党候选人佐菲里接受媒体专访时就强调，种族和宗教政治向来没有在砂拉越政治扮演重要角色，他也否认伊斯兰党的代表是极端分子。他说，如果他们行为过激，他们会引爆炸弹，而不会出来竞选。
