Once In A Century Facelift Awaits Hutton Lane Kopitiam
The famous century-old Kong Thai Lai kopitiam is looking forward to a new facelift comes this 31 September. Located amidst the heritage row of pre-war buildings in George Town this landmark kopitiam occupies an area marked for restoration in line with preserving the island's true ambience of tradition. Kong Thai Lai kopitiam still serves the age -old specialty of hot brewed coffee and crispy toast to kick off the day. In fact this kopitiam is full of history .Amongst its familiar patrons include the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, the "Honda-san" of Malaysia.He even had his special cup reserved for his special brew ,on his favourite marble table, to go along with his regular kaya and butter toast. The "sugar king" Robert Kuok was a satisfied customer too. Today Mr Tan Jeng Seow is the third generation running this heritage kopitiam . If you miss coming here before it's closure for restoration, don't worry, this century-old kopitiam will certainly be back!
