From the very beginning there was nothing but love for 13 Reasons Why, but now it just seems like the series is being called out left and right for something problematic. In a recent tweet that set fans off, the show shared a graphic featuring Jessica and Justin in a loving embrace with the words ‘I’m enough’ plastered over it.
If anyone is confused as why a seemingly sweet photo set the 13 Reasons Why fandom into a frenzy, it’s basically because the relationship that Jessica and Justin had was pretty darn toxic. And the graphic basically glamourized and romanticized it.
For those who haven’t seen the show yet, the following fan reactions contain spoilers ahead! So, you can’t say I didn’t warn you!
Anyway, since the tweet offended so many people, it was then deleted from the show’s account, but that obviously didn’t stop people from calling the series out. One user wrote QUOTE, “He let his friend rape her and lied to her face about it and y’all be romanticizing their unhealthy relationship?? I think the f—k not.”
While another wrote, “I can’t believe you’re promoting this “couple,” he let his friend to rape her while being unconscious and then lied about it. This is toxic.” And one user said it all with just four words and three hand clapping emojis, ‘stop glorifying unhealthy relationships.”
I mean, that pretty much sums up what everyone shouldn’t do, right?
What do you guys think? Do you agree with all the backlash 13 Reasons Why is getting because of their tweet? You know what to do, leave your thoughts in the comment section below!
