Everyone has been anxiously waiting to hear all the songs on Taylor Swift’s upcoming CD, Reputation, since she announced it a couple months ago. There are only a few days left to wait before it’s available everywhere, but someone at a U.K. record store obviously missed that memo.
It all started when a T.Swift fan on Tumblr realized that a music shop called HMV in Birmingham was playing Reputation in its entirety over the weekend.
Another Swiftie then decided to call the store to figure out what the heck was going on and was shocked when they CONFIRMED that Reputation was being played. She tweeted QUOTE “HELP!! JUST CALLED BIRMINGHAM HMV & THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAVE PLAYED THE ALBUM TODAY. SHE ASKED ME WHY I WAS CALLING. I SAID THAT IT ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED, & WAS QUERYING WHY THEY WEREN’T FOLLOWING ORDERS FROM @taylorswift AND HER TEAM.”
When fans realized this news was true, they immediately banded together to prevent the album from leaking further. Swifties began calling and tweeting the store to alert them of their mistake, and also contacted Taylor and her crew to tell them what was going on.
One fan named Caitlin Lawson wrote QUOTE “Yeah if @hmvbirmingham could stop breaking release date instructions, that'd be so great. Respect the date, respect the artist!”
Another Swiftie said QUOTE “@hmvbirmingham you had to wait 6 days for #reputation is hardly forever, why do you think it's necessary to leak it now?!”
Someone else fired QUOTE “STOP PLAYING REPUTATION IT ISN’T FAIR THAT TAYLOR IS BEING TREATED LIKE THIS SHE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS ALBUM.”
Luckily, it doesn’t appear that any of Taylor’s new songs have found their way online just yet, and one fan who goes by the name of @SwiftReputation on Twitter wants to make sure it stays that way by starting the hashtag Protect Reputation. The campaign basically encourages fans to report any leaks they see so that Taylor’s album is protected until its intended release date. The tweet has over 350 re-tweets and almost 1000 likes, so it’s looking like Reputation is safe...for now.
Reputation will be available everywhere this Friday, and while we cannot WAIT to hear all the new songs, we hope for Taylor’s sake that it can be kept under locks until then. Do you want Reputation to leak early, or are you planning to take down anyone who tries to put it out before November 10th? We want to know all your thoughts in the comments below! I’m your host Emile Ennis Jr., thanks for watching Clevver and I’ll see you next time.
