After 3 epic-ly long years, Taylor Swift has finally release a new album and Reputation is everything we’ve been waiting for and so much more.
And if you’re anything remotely like us, you’ve spent the last 12 hours listening to Reputation on repeat – so right now we’re going to break down our top five songs.
First up though, I’ve gotta give a disclaimer – I’m not a music critic, I’m just a fan who’s been eagerly anticipating Tay’s return to music with new tracks. So with that in mind, let’s dive in.
At number 5 we’ve gotta kick it off with Getaway Car, which we have this weird feeling might be her next single/music video because she was recently spotted in London in a car filming something. At any rate, this song is awesome because is basically talks about her ex Tom Hiddleston being her getaway car from her relationship with Calvin Harris which is pretty savagely harsh for the two dudes involved but the track is awesome. Say sings: “I wanted to leave him / I needed a reason, With three of us, honey, it’s a side show / And a circus ain’t a love story.”
At number 4, let’s jump into the theme of this entire album featured on Delicate and T-Swift’s undying love for her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Guys, there is so much schmoopie love on this album and we love it. Delicate takes a peek at the start of their love affair and talks about Tay’s reputation crumbling and him still loving her. She sings: “My reputation’s never been worse, he must like me for me.”
Hopping in at number 3 – we’ve gotta talk about the on-going dramz with the whole Kanye thing on This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things. Honestly she just goes balls to the walls with the lyrics on this one which is why we’re obsessed. Taylor straight up calls out the situation in a way that couldn’t be more obvious singing: “There I was giving you a second chance / If only you weren’t so shady / But you stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand / And therein lies the issue / Friends don’t try to trick you / Get you on phone and mind-twist you.” OH SNAP!
Alright we’re at number 2 and even though the song’s been out for a while, the music video was so epic we’ve gotta give a shout to Look What You Made Me Do. Holy crap, we’re still in shock over how much thought, effort and perfection when into this literal work of art. Also it was the first time we truly found out the old Taylor is dead, which has been a driving force behind us understanding this new Taylor.
And at number one and since this is my list I’m picking the final track on the album, New Years Day. This song is beautiful and almost haunting and showcases a different soulful Taylor – a Taylor we’ve never heard and an artist that has really evolved. Also it’s a ballad and you’re sure to feel so many feels. Oh and did I mention it’s most likely about Joe? Yeah, there’s that too.
