Stephen Colbert debuted as host of The Late Show and we have the highlights from last night’s show right here on Clevver News.
After nine years on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert debuted as host of The Late Show and we are counting down the top 5 highlights from last night’s debut show.
Last night the Colbert era began and he set the stage for a new late night legacy. So let’s get started. The #5 best moment from the end of the show…the credits actually. Earlier in the show Fallon appeared on a TV screen, wishing Colbert luck, and said he would see him in the locker room after the show. Well they brought it full circle, and if you stuck around after the credits, there was a cameo by Jimmy Fallon.
Cause all late night hosts share a locker room before and after their shows, right?
Coming in at #4 is Colbert’s Monologue. This is new for the late night host, as he didn’t deliver a traditional monologue on the Colbert Report. He started by saying QUOTE "With this show, I begin the search for the real Stephen Colbert. I just hope I don't find him on Ashley Madison."
But one of the best moments of the monologue was when Colbert introduced CBS CEO Les Moonves sitting in the front row, holding a button that gave him the power to switch back to reruns of The Mentalist if Colbert faltered.
And no one wanted the button used on highlight #3- when Colbert sat down with politician Jeb Bush and got him talking about the differences between him and his brother, former President, George W. Bush. Take a look:
Highlight #2 is pretty special as Colbert sat down with one of the biggest movie stars in the world- George Clooney. And he didn’t have anything to promote so they made up a fake action movie with the perfect fake-action-movie name Decision Strike, and then naturally, rolled a clip.
And the #1 highlight from last nights debut show was when Colbert went on a Donald Trump binge.Colbert tried his very best to slip in just one or two jokes but he just couldn’t help himself. He set the stage by showing footage of Trump vowing never to eat Oreos again after Nabisco moved a factory from the US to Mexico. And as he made joke after joke about The Donald, he continuously devoured Oreo’s.
And those are the 5 major highlights from Stephen Colbert’s debut Late Night Show. I thought he was fantastic. He tackled the political moments insightfully, was funny, just silly enough, and proved that he has the chops to take over The Late Show, as himself, and not a character like on his previous show. But now that you know what I think, how do YOU guys think he did?! What was your favorite part?
