It’s safe to say that future brides will definitely look to Meghan Markle’s wedding dress as inspiration for their own gowns.
Step aside, Kate Middleton. When it comes to bridal looks, there’s a new royal fashion icon in town and her name is Meghan Markle.
Over the weekend Meghan – now known as the Duchess of Sussex – got married to Prince Harry in a simple, yet super regal Givenchy wedding gown and we seriously just cannot get enough of it. Anyway, if you’re like us and are DYING to know every single little detail about Meghan’s gown (along with her reception dress), well you’re in luck.
When it comes to Meghan’s wedding day looks, both gowns were designed by two of the most trusted female British designers. For her timeless, minimalist wedding dress, Meghan turned to Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller and according to the Royal Family’s official website, Meghan chose Clare for her QUOTE “Timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanor.”
The elegant gown gave off MAJOR Audrey Hepburn vibes with it’s open bateau neckline and sculpted waist. Aside from the noticeable Audrey Hepburn inspiration, the dress was given a modern day twist with a three-quarter length sleeve along with an underskirt made of triple silk organza to create a show-stopping train.
Elle reports that Clare exclusively developed a ‘double bonded silk cady with a soft matte lustre’ for Meghan’s dress and that the two collaborated on the bonding process as well as the color of the gown. Not to mention she wore a hand-embroidered wedding veil that was more than 16 feet long and incorporated the flora of each of the 53 countries of the Commonwealth.
Yeah, Meghan’s overall wedding look for the ceremony looked pretty simple, but there was definitely a lot that went into it.
After the ceremony Meghan opted for a more sexy look for the royal reception. Keeping in theme with her simple and minimalistic aesthetic, Meghan wore a sleeveless white silk gown with a high collar that featured an open back by Stella McCartney.
