It’s the end of an era, you guys: After a soon-to-be 15 season-long run, American Idol is packin’ up and saying goodbye!
Today’s episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by Pitch Perfect 2, in theaters May 15th!
The hit singing competition show is coming to an end after 15 years. THAT’S 15 YEARS, which is one hell of a run. I mean, I was a child when it debuted and I bet that some of you weren’t even born yet. But believe it or not, the news doesn’t come as a HUGE shock to viewers, seeing that the current 9 million view ratings haven’t exactly been up to par with where they were when the show first started at 38 million views during the Season 2 finale. But hey, the show freaking killed it for so many years and it’s difficult to stay on top. The Idol team is seriously talented.
So Ryan Seacrest, who has hosted for the show’s from day 1, spoke out about the Fox cancellation, saying, QUOTE, “American Idol has been a big part of my life for so long, it's frankly hard to imagine it without it. It's been a remarkable journey, and I feel very fortunate to have been part of a show that made television history in countless ways. It's a show about chasing and fulfilling dreams, and truth be told, it helped some of my own dreams come true too.”
And if you do remember, Ryan cohosted the show during the very first season with Brian Dunkleman, who actually left the show thinking it wouldn’t go anywhere, buuuut joke is obviously on him seeing that the run lasted 15 years. The comedian took to Twitter to make a joke saying QUOTE, “I knew American Idol would never last without me #CANCELLED.” Good one, Brian…
And one of the show’s original judges and OG Dawg, Randy Jackson also spoke out about the news saying, ““One of the greatest talent shows ever. Gave us all huge careers and birthed soooo many stars of today. Many have tried to imitate it but there will never be anything like #idol Thanks fans & talent Yall made it possible. Lets b bout the future” WORD, DAWG.
So of course I wouldn’t leave you guys without telling you all the good news: As for what to expect in the future, the entire final season will be a celebration of the past 14 years, and I can only hope to see tons of returning alums, (YES I’M HINTING AT YOU, KELLY CLARKSON, CARRIE UNDERWOOD AND JENNIFER HUDSON!!) There will be a cutback on the number of episodes but Ryan Seacrest, along with all three judges, including Keith Urban, JLo and Harry Connick Jr. will all be returning to ring in the final farewell!
So what do you guys think about American Idol calling it quits next season? Are you going to be sad to see it go, orrr do you kiinda think it was about time? Regardless, the show had a great run and has given careers to so many true talents! So congrats to the entire American Idol team!!
