It’s barely been a year since American Idol went off the air, but NBC and FOX are in a full-on bidding war to bring the once popular music competition back on TV.
Who knew American Idol was going to be such a hot commodity these days?
The Voice should probably try to enjoy their time in the spotlight because it sounds like American Idol is gonna come back and take it all away. According to TMZ, both Fox and NBC are in a HUGE bidding war to try and secure the show on their own respective network. It is revealed that they’ve already submitted their bids to Fremantle Media and that a decision could be made as early as this week.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, NBC already has ‘The Voice,’ so why would they want another music competition show on their network? Well, TMZ went on to report that multiple sources close to the situation revealed that NBC doesn’t want to oversaturate the market with ‘The Voice’ since it airs twice a year, so they believe that taking on American Idol will solve their problem.
If NBC secures the rights to air ‘American Idol’ on their own channel, it is being said that the network’s plan would be to rotate ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Voice’ and have both shows air once a year. TMZ was also told that both Fox and NBC are interested in bringing back Ryan Seacrest as the host of the show.
The outlet’s source went on to reveal that the target date for bringing back Idol would be either Summer 2018 or mid-season in 2019. TMZ was also told that if the reboot happens, there would be a new panel of judges, so as of right now, the plan to reboot does not include JLo, Keith Urban, or Harry Connick Jr.
While there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the possible reboot of Idol, there have also been rumors of Kanye West joining the show as a possible host. But of course, this is not true at all. A source close to Yeezy told TMZ QUOTE, “There is no conversation with Kanye West to join ‘American Idol’ or any other show for that matter.”
Well, that settles everything!
