Even though Kanye was born in Chicago, he’s apparently “Not American Enough” to perform at Trump’s Inauguration. Hard to be an American these days.
As we get closer to Trump’s Inaguration, details about the inauguration and the events surrounding it are being revealed. Some performers will include 3 Doors Down, Toby Keith, and Jackie Evancho, but more people are talking about performers who have either declined their invitation or accepted and then backed out. According to Tom Barrack, chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, ““We haven’t asked him. He’s been great. He considers himself a friend of the President-elect, but it’s not the venue. The venue we have for entertainment is filled out, it’s perfect, it’s going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great guy but we just haven’t asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda.” So I guess Kanye isn’t typically and traditionally American? We may need some clarification regarding who they consider American. Anyway, it wasn’t that long ago that Kanye made a public appearance with Trump at Trump tower to discuss multicultural issues. Kanye at the time said he “feels it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want change.”
Now I’m sure Kanye is not upset or even thinking about the fact that he wasn’t asked to perform, but if he is, this should cheer him up. Washington University is now offering a course titled “Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics.” This isn’t the first course about the rapper, but considering his friendship with Trump and his talks of running for President in 2020, the timing could not be any better.
