Is Kelly Clarkson returning to American Idol as a Judge?! Plus 4 other past contestants who’d make awesome judges...
American Idol is officially coming back, and Kelly Clarkson is already in talks to return--this time, on the other side of the judge’s table.
Kelly obviously won the first season of American Idol back in 2002. Now, TMZ is reporting that Kelly is the first choice of ABC execs to be a judge on the upcoming reboot. The outlet also reported that Kelly is not only interested in the gig--she’s already having her team clear her schedule for when the show will be filmed.
And speaking of filming the show, TMZ is also reporting that American Idol will be hosting auditions at Disney World and possibly Disneyland--rather than taking the show from city to city, as they did in previous seasons. There are apparently two reasons for this decision: One, to promote the Disney brand and theme parks, and two, because traveling from city to city got wayy too costly with seasons prior, and obviously keeping the auditions to two locations max would take out a huge chunk of the production budget.
So we’ve got the location and we’ve got one judge seat filled--but what about the other two to three seats? Idol may be looking to bring back some OG judges, but we’d like to propose 5 other former contestants who we think would make awesome judges for the reboot…
First, Jennifer Hudson may not have been THE winner during her season of Idol, but she catapulted to success in her own right after the show ended, and even won an OSCAR for her work in Dreamgirls. So there’s no doubt she’d be a mega inspiration to all the contestants.
Another former contestant who didn’t win Idol but still went on to become a massive success is Adam Lambert. Adam is currently touring with Queen, but surely he’d be able to make some time to become a judge on the show that catapulted his career.
Next, Jordin Sparks DID win season 3 of the show, and she produced a number of hits, including “No Air” and “Battlefield”. Judging American Idol could add some fuel to the fire in her own career--plus she’d definitely bring some youthful energy to the show in the same way Demi Lovato did when she was a judge.
And last but not least, Carrie Underwood might be too busy to take the gig, but you know she’d be an instant fan favorite on the judging panel. Carrie became Idol’s most successful Alumni to date, as she completely took over the country world after winning her season in 2005. She’s the only country artist to score six consecutive number one albums on the Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, plus she's a seven-time GRAMMY winner, so she’d definitely be able to give some amazing advice and coaching to aspiring music artists.
Okay guys, now I wanna know who you think would make an awesome American Idol judge in the upcoming reboot season, so sound off with your thoughts and opinions, and after that click here to check out famous singers rejected by Idol.
