Betty White is undeniably a television legend. She has been nominated for an Emmy 24 times and has wins in her repertoire. Known most for her roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland. Betty took the stage last night at the 70th annual Emmys to be recognized for her legacy and was met with a standing ovation.
Betty reflected on her seven-decades-long career and joked about a time recently when she overheard someone call her the “First Lady of Television,” but they didn't exactly mean what she thought. She explained saying QUOTE - “...then I heard her talking to her daughter a little later, and she said, ‘First lady, she’s that old. She was the first one way back.’”
She gave a special shoutout to Lorne Michaels who is a Saturday Night Live producer saying QUOTE - “I thought the biggest, most exciting night I’d ever had — I’m talking to Lorne Michaels now — was the night he gave me an honor. But boy, you topped yourself tonight, Lorne. “It’s incredible you can stay in a career this long and still have people put up with you. I wish they did that at home.”
She’s the cutest, and at one point Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin, who were on stage because they presented her, took a moment to kiss her hands and Betty joked saying -
“You think I’m gonna miss a chance when I get it.”
