In a recent interview, Camila Cabello revealed that she wants to drop her last name, but can’t for a specific reason.
In a world of Beyonce’s, Shakira’s, and Rihanna’s I can see why Camila wants to go by only her first name, but unfortunately it’s not in the cards for her.

Camila is jet setting around Europe right now promoting her newest singles “Havana” and “OMG” and during an interview with Official Charts, when asked what artists in the Latin pop world people should discover, Camila revealed that she wishes she could change her stage name saying QUOTE – “There’s this pop-rock band I absolutely love called Camila, coincidentally. They’re the reason I can’t take off my last name, even though I really want to.” It’s too bad that the name is already taken because I could totally see Camila as a stand alone name for an illuminated marquee, but oh well life’s not fair. When asked about how she feels now that “Havana” has garnered so much success, Camila told Official Chart QUOTE - “I’m so happy, I’m over the moon! I’ve never been so high before. So many people said this song wouldn’t work, but me and my team always believed in it. It feels good to have that. This is the defiant song."
When asked if “Havana’s” success has changed anything regarding her debut album, Camila said QUOTE - "It’s made me want to write more songs and it’s showed me that I should trust my gut more. Havana has been the defiant song but I always thought it was important to put out music that feels authentic to me. Havana doing well feels like the universe’s way of saying, 'keep doing that, don’t be scared to take risks.'"
As for when we can expect the new album, Camila said QUOTE - "I think it’ll come at the top of next year. You only have one chance to make a debut album and at this point I have so many songs I’m passionate about. You know those albums where [there] are clearly songs that aren’t as good as the singles. I want every song to be single-worthy.”
Until then we will have “Havana” stuck in our heads whether we like it or not as we wait for more new music. And surely we will be seeing more and more of Camila seeing as though she has been added to the lineup of performers at the Latin American Music Awards. But question time.
