It’s been just over a year since Camila Cabello pulled a Zayn and announced that she was splitting from Fifth Harmony to focus on her solo career. To say she’s been successful would be the biggest understatement of the year, and we’re only 26 days into it!
Camila’s debut self-titled album is happily sitting at the number one spot on the charts along with her hit-single “Havana”-oh-na-na. Sorry, that’s going to be stuck in your head now, but Cami has pretty much taken over the world!
The other Fifth Harmony members have made it pretty clear that they don’t want to dwell in the past, especially when they had someone representing Camila fall off the stage during their MTV VMA performance. While Camila doesn’t LOVE to talk about her time in the girl group, she just opened up about her experience to The Edit and everything is starting to make a little more sense.
Camila revealed that she first got the songwriting bug while in the studio with 5H saying QUOTE “I became super-curious about songwriting and it was around the time – I think it was the second year that I was with the group – that I wanted to start songwriting for other people.”
But that wasn’t enough for Cami, she wanted to write for HERSELF about her OWN experiences. She described that tough predicament saying QUOTE “Once I was old enough to experience my first kiss, or the first time that I went out on a date, I began writing songs about it, and I didn’t want to give them away to anybody else because they were about me. I was finding my voice, and with it, I found the passion that gives you a deeper meaning.”
Although their relationship may not be the same, Camila made it clear that she wouldn’t be where she it without X-Factor and Fifth Harmony. She said QUOTE “It shaped me entirely. would not be the person that I am right now; I would not have been ready for this. I feel like being part of a group teaches you so many things about yourself, ironically. And it And it also brings out this healthy competition, you know what I mean? You never want to be the one that sucks.”
She didn’t elaborate greatly on the whole “healthy competition” comment, but we’re sure that it was a very similar feeling to intense sibling rivalry.
As much as we miss seeing all five girls together, both have created some incredible music and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next!
What do you think about this new interview? Does it make more sense as to why Cami left the group? Let us know what you think in the comments below and then click here to see Dua Lipa’s hilarious Twitter clap back. I’m Erin Robinson, thanks for tuning in!
