It’s been A WEEK for Cardi B. Our sudden favorite rapper dropped her debut album Invasion of Privacy and confirmed her pregnancy on SNL. Cardi is now featured in the latest issue of GQ, and taking her album title to heart. This bombshell cover story sure feels like an invasion of Cardi’s privacy. Let’s break down the most shocking facts from Cardi B’s most candid interview EVER.
First of all, this boss isn’t scared of anything. Cardi revealed that she got illegal butt injections for $800 in a basement in Queens during her stripping days. She says wanted a fat ass because her boyfriend had just cheated on her with a girl that had a big ass. Also, she’d observed that her colleagues with big asses made more money than she did stripping. But when Cardi visited that basement for a touch up, the woman doing illegal injections had been locked up for killing someone.
Turns out something Cardi IS terrified of, is meeting celebrities. Cardi admitted QUOTE, “I’m too nervous. I’m too shy. When I met Beyonce, people be like, ‘How that felt? I bet you was mad happy… Actually, I wanted to sh*t on myself.’ It was a very scary thing.’” And at the time poor Bey was just loving on Cardi telling her how much she loved her music. Okay, but we’d probably react the same exact way.
Cardi also opened up about being in a gang. She admits she never really wanted to talk about it before because she knew it would hurt her chances of getting a record deal. She explained, “I always want to keep my endorsements. When I was 16 years old, I used to hang out with a lot of Bloods.” Cardi eventually joined the gang, but left at 19 when she found stripping. And even though she left the gang, she admits she stills reps the Bloods to this day.
Despite joining a gang, Cardi revealed she’s super tight with her parents and she grew up in a “strict” household. Born with the name Belcalis Almanzar, she grew up in a small Dominican enclave in NYC and suffered from chronic asthma. Cardi’s parents were overprotective of her and she wasn’t even allowed to attend sleepovers. Perhaps this upbringing explains our last shocking fact: Cardi is obsessed with US history. “I love political science. I love government. I’m obsessed with presidents. I’m obsessed to know how the system works.” And when she says obsessed, she means, she can recite endless facts about US presidents.
Seeing as Cardi has defied all odds at this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if running for office was in her future. But for now, we’ll stick to learning as much about Cardi as possible.
