Construction was first begun on Christchurch Cathedral in 1038 by King Sitric Silkenbeard, the Viking King of Dublin. In the following centuries the cathedral was expanded until it became one of Ireland's most striking structures. The strong exterior of the building is complemented by the peaceful interior with beautiful stained glass windows and ornate tombs. Many of the original structures from the twelfth century are still evident and can be viewed by taking a tour of the cathedral.
