Cody Simpson & James Maslow Talk Girlfriend & Dating on Dancing with the Stars Debut

That was Cody Simpson taking on the Cha Cha with his pro partner on last night's Dancing With The Stars season debut. High five, Cody!! The pair received a 22 out of 30 -- with judge notes like Cody has 'charisma by the truckload', his big feet are distracting and we love this face that Cody made while listening to Len's advice to work on his technique. Things turned a bit awkward and funny when new DWTS co-host Erin Andrews asked Cody how it was dancing with his partner Witney Carson in front of his girlfriend GiGi Hadid.

Um, and you know that show producers are successfully trying to make this awkward, as Witney straight-up asked Cody about his gf when they met.

Yea, and then the dancer revealed that she doesn't have a boyfriend. Totally awkward -- how many times am I saying awkward about the position that DWTS put Cody in?!? Gigi and Cody -- you two are adorable and I support the ship as long as you do.

Moving on to another awkward moment -- but with another one of our favorites this season, James Maslow! When he walks into the dance studio to find out who his pro partner will be, we learn that her and Peta Murgatroyd went out to dinner earlier this year and they haven't chatted since. Show producers stepped in to get the details.

Again, soooo awkward. But it didn't mess up these two. James and Peta took on the foxtrot to 1D's Story of My Life. Amazing, amazing job, James -- we're so proud of you! Here's a clip straight from the dance floor -- and please pay close attention to that leg extension. Excuse me, Mr. Maslow!

The judges suggested that James remember to breathe, stay cute and keep that natural elegance, especially for ballroom dancing. They received a 21 out of 30 -- congrats congrats!
