Ed Sheeran deletes his Twitter account after his Game of Thrones cameo--did criticism from trolls play a part in his decision?
Ed Sheeran once again temporarily deleted his Twitter account, and cyber-bullying might have something to do with it.
Ed took down his Twitter account shortly after Game of Thrones fans mocked his cameo in the Season 7 premiere, and while Ed hasn’t commented why his account went inactive, the timing is certainly suspicious. And while we’re surprised, we’re kinda not surprised, because there was a LOT of hate thrown Ed’s way for the cameo.
One fan complained QUOTE, “Nothing takes me out of a fantasy world like a random Ed Sheeran appearance”, while another wrote QUOTE, “Ed Sheeran on #got is like when the Harlem Globetrotters were on Scooby Doo. It's like what're we doing here”. And those are the nicer criticisms, so it’s kinda hard to blame Ed for wanting all that negativity thrown at him.
Of course this isn’t the first time Ed shut down his account. Last month, he told The Sun he had gone off twitter completely because of all the incessant cyber-bullying. He told the new outlet QUOTE, "I can't read it. I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it."
But after fans became upset with his social media absence, Ed later clarified his quotes and insisted he hadn’t quit, he just wasn’t reading anything. And just like when he went off Twitter about a month ago, his Twitter account is already back up and his Instagram account has remained active. Hopefully his temporary absence from Twitter will send a message to online trolls that as far as nasty comments go--Ed is literally not gonna be here for it, so don’t even bother.
In happier news for Ed, he’s going to get another chance to appear on the small screen, only this time it’s via a character on The Simpsons. The musical themed episode Ed is set to appear in is called “Haw Haw Land”, a La La Parody that’s due to hit the show’s next season. Ed will voice a character named Brendan who becomes Lisa Simpson's love interest and Milhouse's nemesis, and Ed was happy to share the fun news on his Instagram account. He posted the news along with the caption QUOTE, "This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing. Watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on.” Who could blame anyone for taking up offers to be on Game of Thrones or The Simpsons! Don’t let the haters get you down Ed--because you know they’re just jealous.
Alright guys I wanna know what you think of Ed deleting his Twitter account--do you think it’s because of all the hate he got for his Game of Thrones cameo?
