I have two words for you: Pride ears!
Pride month isn’t until June, but Disney has just released all new merch to celebrate a little early. The company unveiled their new pride ears at Disneyland and Disneyworld earlier this month, and they are BEYOND adorable.
As you can see, the all-new ear-hats have red base, rainbow-colored ears, and an embroidered patch depicting a pair of white-gloved Mickey hands forming a heart around a rainbow, symbolizing Disney’s support for the LGBTQ community. The ears are officially called the “Mickey Mouse Rainbow Love” hat, and retail for $18 dollars.
Shut up and take my money!
While this it’s great that the company is showing solidarity and support with the LGBTQ community with the new merch, Disney’s got a long way to go as far as recognizing LGBTQ characters in its films and TV shows. 2017’s Beauty and the Beast portrayed the first-ever gay character in a Disney film, with Josh Gad’s LeFou, and Disney Channel shared its first gay storyline on an episode of Andi Mack last year, but fans definitely want to see more recognition, inclusion and visibility from the company.

Disney has also never officially sanctioned “Gay Days,” which is an annual Pride celebration that attracts thousands of queer visitors to its US parks each year. Considering they’re gonna be selling a LOT of their Rainbow ears to these visitors, recognizing Gay Days is the LEAST Disney can do.
So what do you guys think of Disney’s pride ears? And are you surprised they haven’t officially recognized “Gay Days” yet? Sound off in the comments with your thoughts and feelings! Thanks so much for joining me on News Feed, I’m your host Zoe Lillian and I’ll see you next time.
