The Dolan Twins and Shane Dawson just collaborated for the first time on a raw, emotional documentary-style video and they drop some really emotional news on us!
Hey everyone, It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and when YouTubers are going through a challenging time and need somewhere to process, where do they go?
Shane Dawson of course.
And that’s exactly what the Dolan Twins did.
Ethan and Grayson Dolan have been uploading funny, engaging YouTube videos every Tuesday for the past 5 years.
Last week they tweeted saying quote, “Filmed something very personal and important to us. A message we’ve been wanting to share with you for a while now. Thank you so much @shanedawson for having this conversation with us, you truly helped us so much ❤️”
The internet was buzzing wondering what their announcement could possibly be.
But now we know.
The guys are 19 years old going on 20, so they have been uploading a video every week since they were 14 and they just weren’t happy with the grueling schedule and lifestyle anymore.
They start off by sitting down with Shane and explaining the reason behind the video
Which may not seem like the biggest deal to the average person, but this is their entire livelihood. This is all they’ve known for the past five years, regardless of it they were happy while doing it, this was their entire teenage life.
While most of us were in high school hanging out with friends on the weekend, playing sports, or doing homework, the Dolan Twins were producing video after video trying to grow their channel.
And they loved it and were extremely passionate about it for a while but they started to burn out.
Ethan even said quote, “If I was going through something hard in my life I would think, how am I going to fake my mood? How am I going to be happy in the next two days because I have to film a happy video to get it up on Tuesday? … Not being able to recover from certain things I’m going through because I’m posting has made me want to quit so many times.”
Which is totally fair. We really feel for the boys. We see these YouTubers and celebs for such small portions of their lives and we only usually see them when they are happy or having fun.
But they all have real lives and things they go through off camera.
Shane lent some great advice to the Dolan Twins as someone who used to post almost daily at one stage, but now posts whenever he chooses - rather than being controlled by a posting schedule - and feels passionate about what he’s posting.
Ethan and Grayson also got into some of what they have gone through the past couple years while they have still been posting weekly.
They were going back and forth from New Jersey to Los Angeles every week trying to be there for him and their mom, while also still trying to produce and upload their videos to their channel.
Needless to say, the Dolan Twins were not prioritizing themselves during a very challenging time.
They decided that along with discontinuing the weekly Tuesday videos, they will only be producing content that they really care or are passionate about, like their video they made with Jeffree Star a couple weeks ago.
Regarding their video with Jeffree, they talked about how while they loved that project, it wasn’t able to have their full attention because they had to think about other filler projects to upload while they were working on editing it.
And I am so here for it.
And I’m also so here for the Dolan Twins’ new journey and the next chapter of their lives and content.
But I want to know what you guys thought of the Dolan Twins’ announcement.
Were you surprised with the news they shared? Is this what you thought they were going to be sharing? And do you like when your favorite YouTubers are honest with you about what’s going on in their personal lives?
