Dancing With the Stars is officially headed to the finals, but after a shocking elimination last night, fans won’t expect to see gymnast Simone Biles give it her all next week.
Simon may have earned herself a perfect score last night, but it just wasn’t enough to take her to the final week.
It was another shocking elimination during last night’s semi-finals Dancing With the Stars as gold-medalist Simone Biles and her partner Sasha Farber, who earned themselves a perfect 10 across the board during both their jive and rumba routines, were eliminated just before the final three were announced to compete in next week’s finals.
As the three remaining couples, Normani and Val, David and Lindsay, and Rashad and Emma, were announced as “safe”, ultimately moving on to compete for the mirror ball trophy next week, Simone handled the elimination like the pro that she is – with a giant smile on her face.
But Simone’s journey wasn’t exactly all smiles – after tough criticism from the judge’s prior to her dances this week about not showing any expression while she dances to which Simone snapped back by saying “Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals,” Simone broke down this week in rehearsal in an emotional montage of feeling like her best just isn’t good enough for them.
She sure proved the judges wrong this week, however, after voters’ scores were also taken into consideration, Simone and Sasha bid their adieus. Luckily Simone was able to find the light at the end of the tunnel and take the high road following her loss, telling Us Weekly after the show, QUOTE, “Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. I have been going nonstop since the Olympics, and I feel like I couldn’t ask for more of what Sasha has done for this entire season and journey, and I found out a lot about myself.”
She also revealed to Good Morning America this morning that she thought they were going to pull a Steve Harvey on she and Sasha, and by the look on ALL the judges’ faces last night, Simone probably wasn’t the only one…
But Simone continues to turn her constructive criticism into inspiration even after the show – She took to Snapchat to share the judges’ infamous critiquing words now forever immortalized printed on a t-shirt, saying, “Smiling doesn’t win gold medals”. Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron later apologized for his sexist comment, saying that Simone was showing no expression while receiving feedback from the judges, but Simone has clearly made the best out of a shaky situation.
