Home Ministry, AGC agree on decriminalising suicide

Efforts to decriminalise suicide is moving forward after the Home Ministry and Attorney-General’s Chambers have agreed to it.

This was revealed by Deputy Health Minister Aaron Ago Dagang in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said the next step is to bring the matter to the cabinet for deliberation before amendments are made to the Penal Code to decriminalise suicide.

Under Section 309 of the Penal Code, attempting suicide is punishable by up to one year imprisonment, or a fine, or both.
