We were hoping that the Paul brothers would leave all of their inappropriate hijinks in 2017, but it looks like we have another long year of controversial vlogs ahead of us.
Three days into 2018 and Jake Paul is already causing an uproar over his inappropriate clickbait thumbnail that was uploaded yesterday.
It’s no secret that YouTuber Jake Paul doesn’t do anything without having a camera pointed at him 24/7. Jake has over 12 million followers and his channel is primarily geared towards a younger audience. Young teenagers make up a majority of Jake’s fan base, the Jake Paulers, and although he does insane “pranks” and has elaborate and expensive taste, he always bleeps out curse words and is topics are USUALLY age-appropriate.
Jake has been called out A LOT in the past year for his insensitive remarks and reckless behavior and although he always promises to be better, it looks like 2018 isn’t going to be any different. The 20-year-old uploaded a new vlog to his channel yesterday titled “Losing My Virginity”, which is a normal topic for YouTubers to talk about. But instead of a video of Jake talking about when he ACTUALLY lost his virginity, it was a vlog about him skiing for the first time. In the video he even said that the event would be great for clickbait.
Fans weren’t too happy with the insane clickbait, but what got people really upset was Jake’s choice of a thumbnail photo. Although the video is about snowboarding and skiing, Jake used a photo of him only wearing boxers laying on a bed with his fellow Team 10 member Erika Costell straddling him wearing only underwear.
People called Jake out for using content that is too mature for his audience and for not being self-aware. Tons of people took to Twitter to explain their frustrations saying that his viewers are now going to be exposed to this topic for potentially the first time and that it’s not a good introduction to the topic of sex and virginity.
Jake must have paid attention because he has since switched out the thumbnail photo for a picture of both him and Erika fully clothed sitting on a bed instead.
Here’s to hoping that the rest of the year is better than the first three days.
What do you think about the thumbnail controversy? Should Jake Paul be more aware of his content or should he have creative control over his channel?
